It is COLD!

The thermometer is showing -31* C this morning. The reported windchill is -40* C.

Does this affect your concrete? Absolutely it does. Frost caused the moist soil under your slab to expand and push up or heave your concrete slab. You may notice extra cracks in your concrete or you may notice the your front door now rubs on the concrete when you open it. Or worse you cannot open it all they way anymore. We all know that it WILL warm up again. Your concrete will settle back down as the frost comes out of the soil and your doors will function normally again but the cracks will still be there. There may even be more cracks. Worse yet your concrete may settle back down farther than the original pour height. This is due to the soil being weakened from to much moisture in the soil. The other thing that can cause settlement is our heavy clay soil drying out and shrinking. As you can see controlling the moisture that gets under our slabs is very important.

Sentry Concrete Solutions can help you with this problem. We use a high grade silicone based joint and crack sealant to keep the water from seeping through the joints and cracks and affecting the soil under your concrete. It is very flexible and has been designed to withstand our cold Manitoba winters. (Did I mention that is is cold today?) The other thing Sentry Concrete Solutions is able to do is, we can lift that settled slab right back up to where you want it. Our super-strong, light-weight polyurethane foam makes quick work of raising your slab right back up to where you want it. Give us a call today or fill out the form on our website to book your free quote. Oh and don't forget that we can fix your settled basement floor or any other indoor concrete even when it is so COLD!
